The Power of Social Media: Don't Let Them Forget You

Social MediaBridgette BurtonComment

We all hear how social media is vital to a growing business. There are peeps out there that will tell you the best times to post, what to hashtag, and what images to add to get more views and shares. I, however, am just as confused and overwhelmed as you are! I am in information overload. But, and there is always a but, this morning I woke up and had a first hand experience on how social media works to grow my business.

So, I woke up all dreamy eyed, waiting for my breakfast in bed (ya right!) and rolled over to see how many of my wonderful followers had checked out my website. What I fail to mention is that as I am in the process of re-branding my site, working another full time job, and taking the Ultimate Portfolio Builder from Make It In Design, I have neglected to post on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter. Build it and they will come. Right? Well actually that's wrong. Since my frequent posting staggered to a complete halt, my website views dropped to maybe two a day and that is pushing it. In fact, I am pretty sure one of those views is my Mom.

I first clicked publish in June 2015. And yes I am re-branding, but that is a whole 'nother enchilada. Since then, my site soared to over 1500 views a month. Is that great? For me, YES! For another maybe that is low. We all have different goals and mine was 1000 views a month. When I had exceeded that I was jumping-on-the-bed excited. And then it stopped.

Then those views plummeted. No one knows who I am unless I tell them. No one knows what great content I have unless I show them. No one... well you get the point. To sum it all up:  I need to post frequently to get social mediatites (just made that up. maybe it will catch on?) traffic to my site. So, I have no one to blame but myself. I work by myself so the only other blame I can spread would maybe be to the dog, who is overly cute and loves me so that's a bad idea.

Are you struggling with consistent posting on social media? What are your plans to conquer the 'net?
